Converting Horsepower (HP) to Kilowatts (kW)

Horsepower (HP) is a non-SI unit of power. There is no unified definition of HP, so HP is not recommended and can be replaced by kilowatts (kW). However, car specifications often use both kilowatts (kW) and horsepower (ag), so you can easily convert them with this calculator.

Car documents contain two numbers related to the power an engine generates: horsepower and torque. In Europe, these numbers are given as kilowatts and newton meters. In North America, they are measured in horsepower and pounds per foot. The main difference between the two is that horsepower is a measure of power that indicates the amount of energy transferred over a period of time, while Newton meters is a measure of torque that measures rotational force that has no unit of time.

Horse Power (HP) Kilowatts (KW) Explanation
110 (at) 82.03 (kW) One hundred and ten horsepower
115 (at) 85.76 (kW) One hundred and fifteen horsepower
120 (at) 89.46 (kW) One hundred and twenty horsepower
130 (at) 96.94 (kW) One hundred and thirty horsepower
140 (at) 104.4 (kw) One hundred and forty horsepower
150 (at) 111.85 (kw) One hundred and fifty horsepower
